He served on jury on 5 Mar 1672/73 at Westmoreland Co., VA. Deposition of John Wyat aged 35 years or thereabouts that PEETER DUNKIN was at Maj. Perce's about the month of May and did ask him whether Richard Sutton's girl was brought to bedd and who nursed the child. I told him I did not know for it did not concern me. PEETER DUNKIN said if all be true that I hear that there was goods stole out of Maj. Allerton's house and disclosed it that Richd: Sutton carried it home. 27 Sep 1673 John Wyat made oath, Easter Hasebrigg age 34 that PEETER DUNKIN said he did hear that . . . Maj. Allerton, Sutton, etc on 17 Nov 1673 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

3 ii. Henry Dunkan; b. circa 1653?; birth order of Peter Duncan's children not known to me; m. Dorothy McClanahan circa 1694; d. before 25 Apr 1711 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He was left a bequest in will of John Wilson, being 750 acres. His father PETER DUNKIN was named Executor on 6 Apr 1671 at Westmoreland Co., VA. It was commanded Samll. Thompson Gent., Sheriff, that hee should arrest HENRY DUNKAN to answer John Wallis of a plea on the case to his damage 5000 lbs. of tobacco, upon which the Sheriff returned cepi corpus, but the defendant makeing default and no bail being return'd, judgment is granted John Wallis for 5000 lbs. of tobacco . . . judgment is passed against the Sheriff. At the request of the Sheriff it is ordered that he have an attachment against the estate of HENRY DUNKAN for 5000 lbs. of tobacco on 26 May 1698 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He was attached to answer John Wallis of a plea on the case. The plaintiff marrieing Margt. Edwards declared aginst him for detaining a heifer. The defendant by his attorney pleaded that for variance that the writt was to answer John Wallis only and the declaration John Wallis as marrieing Margt: Edwards, the same ought to abate. The Court found the exception to be true. It is considered that the plaintiff take nothing and that HENRY recover against John 50 lbs. of tobacco.

JOHN DUNKAN being summoned to give his evidence in a suit between John Wallis and HENRY DUNKAN on behalf of the plaintiff and haveing attended eight days, it is ordered John Wallis pay him 320 lbs. of tobacco on 30 Jun 1698 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He and Samuel Damouvel Order is granted SAMLL. DEMONVILLE against HENRY DUNKAN for 40 lbs. tobacco for one day's attendance as an evidence inter John BAYLEY and HENRY DUNKAN on behalf of the defendant on 28 Feb 1699/0 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He being summoned to give his evidence in a suite between Isaac Allerton Esqr. and James Laughon on behalf of the plaintif and haveing attended nine days, it is ordered hee bee paid 360 lbs. of tobacco out of the estate of Isaac Allerton on 27 Nov 1702 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He was ordered to appraise the estate of Jacob Lucas on 31 Mar 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He was ordered to inventory the estate of Jacob Lucas on 29 Apr 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He being summoned to give evidence in a suit between Wm. Heslerigg and Rebecca Potter on behalf of the defendant, and haveing attended seven days, it is ordered Rebecca Potter doe pay HENRY DUNKAN 280 lbs. of tobacco.

DOROTHY the wife of HENRY DUNKAN being summoned to give her evidence . . . ordered Rebecca Potter doe pay HENRY DUNKAN 240 lbs. tobacco on 27 May 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He Danll. McCarty brought his action of debt against HENRY FUNKAN for 799.5 lbs. of tobacco and the Sheriff made return that HENRY was not to bee found in his baylywick. An attachment is granted against the estate of HENRY on 30 Jun 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA. Judgment is granted Danll. McCarty against HENRY DUNKIN for 799 lbs. of tobacco due by accounts on 30 Dec 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He was a juror in suit of John Sturman, Gent., in a plea of trespass for spitefully and maliciously shooting a gray mare . . . Wee the jurors find for the plaintiff that the defendant is guilty and hath damnified the plaintiff 800 lbs. tobacco on 30 Mar 1704 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He confessed judgment to Alexr. Spence Gent. for 200 lbs. of tobacco on 31 May 1704 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He confessed judgment to Hubert Vinckestyne of King's Lynn in the County of Norfolk, merchant, for 700 lbs. of tobacco on 1 Jun 1705 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He Gerrard Hutt Gent., surveyor of the highwayes for that precinct of Copeley Parish leading from Jacob Ramyes Run . . . appointed surveyor by order 25 Nov 1702 . . . persons hereafter named . . . lawfully summoned by virtue of a warrant from Hutt to HENRY DUNKAN his deputy dated 17 Jul 1705 . . . willfully and contemptuously despised the authority of this Court and in contempt absolutely refused to come to the work when lawfully summoned . . on 25 Jul 1705 at Copley Par., Westmoreland Co., VA. He was summoned to answer John Higgins of a plea that he render to the plaintiff 535 lbs. of tobacco. It was comanded Buyrdett Ashton, Gent., late Sheriff that hee should summon HENRY DUNKAN to answer John Higgins of debt for 535 lbs. of tobacco and the Sheriff returned cepi corpus . . . Burdett Ashton, Gent., Sheriff was commanded to summon HENRY DUNKAN to answer John Higgins of a plea of debt . . . an attachment is granted him against the estate of HENRY DUNKAN on 27 Jun 1706 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He Judgment is granted Burdit Ashton, Gent., late Sheriff, against HENRY DUNKAN for 665 lbs. of tobacco debt and costs obtained against him by John Higgins for that hee had not HENRY DUNKAN at a Court held 28 Aug 1706 to answer Higgins, for which Ashton obtained an attachment agt. DUNKAN's estate. Ordered that DUNKAN pay to Burditt Ashton, late Sheriff, out of the estate returned attached by the present Sheriff with all contingent costs on 28 Mar 1706/7 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He and Charles Dunkan acknowledged a sale of land to Robert Smith and FRANCES DUNKAN, the wife of CHARLES DUNKAN, and DOROTHY DUNKAN, the wife of HENRY DUNKAN, relinquished their right of dower on 29 Apr 1708 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He acknowledged a deed of release of lands to John Jenkins and DOROTHY, the wife of HENRY relinquished her right of dower.

HENRY DUNKAN acknowledged a deed of sale of land to CHARLES DUNKAN and DOROTHY the wife of HENRY relinquished her right of dower on 29 Apr 1708 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He left a will on 25 Apr 1711 at Westmoreland Co., VA: The last will and testament of HENRY DUNKAN was presented in Court by his relict and executrix DOROTHY DUNKAN and proved by Thomas Sorrell, one of the wittnessses. Certifycate is granted her for obtaining a prbat. It is ordered shee return a true, full and perfect inventory. It is alsoe ordered that John Jenkins, John Moon, Daniel Occany, SAMLL: RUST and John Awbrey appraise the estate.

Chamberlaine and found to be 134 acres, the said 150 acres being bought by my father PETER DUNKAN and given to me by his last will, the said land being bought of James Stewart. CHARLES DUNKAN 30 Mar 1698, acknowledged by CHARLES DUNKAN on 2 Mar 1697/98 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He and John Dunkan deeded land to each other, JOHN DUNKAN of Westmoreland Co. unto my brother CHARLES DUNKAN, for divers good causes, 100 acres in the branches of Nomony, being part of the moiety or half of 200 acres which I did buy of my brother HENRY DUNKAN, being the moiety of half of 1387 acres formerly belonging to John Willson dec'd and by him given to the said HENRY DUNKAN and Ann Hutt late wife of Mr. Thomas Waddy. The said 200 being laid out by Mr. William Horton 7 Nov 1683 . . . a dividing line between the said HENRY DUNKAN and HENRY DUNKAN . . . 30 Mar 1698, acknowledged in court by JOHN DUNKAN on 3 Mar 1697/98 at Westmoreland Co., VA. It is ordered that James Locklin, putative son of John Quibus, aged 18 yeares or thereabouts, remaine with CHARLES DUNKAN until the next Court and doe him such reasonable service as he shall have occasion to employ him in dureing the said tyme, and CHARLES is ordered to allow and provide for him all reasonable necessaries dureing the tyme and also to have him at the next Court to the end he may be settled and disposed of according to law on 30 Oct 1700 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He gave deposition that he saw Thomas Kirtley acknowledge the discharge of John Hartley from debts and suits on 1 Apr 1706 at Westmoreland Co., VA. Daniel Harper and CHARLES DUNKAN severally deposed they see a release from Thomas Kirtley to Jno. Hartley and heard Kirtley own the same to bee his act and deed and did then prove a certificate of the same from Mr. Guibert with severall other papers relateing thereto on 25 Sep 1706 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He and Henry Dunkan acknowledged a sale of land to Robert Smith and FRANCES DUNKAN, the wife of CHARLES DUNKAN, and DOROTHY DUNKAN, the wife of HENRY DUNKAN, relinquished their right of dower on 29 Apr 1708 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He FRANCES DUNKAN, relict of CHARLES DUNKAN, made oath that CHARLES DUNKAN departed this life without makeing any will soe farr as shee knowes or believes and on her motion (and Capt. GEORGE ESKRIDGE and Mr. Wm: Manley's assumeing to be securities) certifycate is granted her for obtaining letters of administration. Referred to a jury. Verdict, referred to the next Court, the evidences to appeare and the same jury to try the cause on 9 Jan 1677/78 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He vs. Moore and Owen. Referred to a jury. Verdict, We find against Tho: Moore and desire Henry Owens dog and bitch may be killed. Judgment is granted on the verdict. It is the judgment of this Court that Tho: Moore pay to JOHN DUNKIN 1000 lbs. of tobacco as informer on 27 Feb 1677/78 at Westmoreland Co., VA. on 3 Mar 1697/98 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He being summoned to give his evidence in a suit between John Wallis and HENRY DUNKAN on behalf of the plaintiff and haveing attended eight days, it is ordered John Wallis pay him 320 lbs. of tobacco on 30 Jun 1698 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

"Judgment is granted JOHN DUNKAN against Joseph Gamble for 2200 lbs. of tobacco due to him by award of a difference between them had and decided. Ordered the sheriff doe pay him 116 lbs. of tobacco attacht of Gamble's estate and that Gamble pay him the residue of the debt on 23 Feb 1698/99 at Westmoreland Co., VA."

He acknowledged a certaine assignement of land to Wm. Linton and ELIZABETH his wife relinquished her right of dower and thirds to the same. William Linton acknowledged a deed of assignment of land from him to JOHN DUNKAN on 31 Jan 1699/0 at Westmoreland Co., VA. A deed of sale of lands from JOHN DUNKAN to Michll. Gilbert was acknowledged, and ELIZA. DUNKAN wife of JOHN DUNKAN relinquished her right of dower on 28 Jan 1701 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He brought his action on the case against Michll. Halbert for 1166 lbs. of tobacco but for that hee did not prosecute the same with effect, a nonsuit is granted on 30 Sep 1703 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He sold land, JOHN DUNKAN of Cople Parish to Robert Phillips, 5 acres for 5500 lbs. tobacco, JOHN DUNKAN & ELIZABETH wife of JOHN DUNKAN on 31 Jan 1704/5 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He acknowledged a sale of land from him to Robert Phillipp. ELIZA, wife of JOHN, relinquished her right of dower on 25 Apr 1705 at Westmoreland Co., VA. Lewis Feareing was summoned to answer Wm. Chandler of a plea that he render to him 450 lbs. of tobacco . . . the Sheriff to summon twelve . . . JOHN DUNKAN [who] say Wee find for the plaintiff on 27 Jan 1708/9 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He being summoned to appeare at this Court to be sworn Grand Inquisitors and not giveing their attendance are severally fined 200 lbs. of tobacco on 25 May 1709 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

William Garland and JOHN DUNKAN, each being fined 200 lbs. of tobacco in May Court last for their nonappearance on the Grand Jury being summoned on the same to the said Court, at this Court appeareing and showing good reasons for their nonappearance are remitted and discharged from payment of the 200 lbs. of tobacco on 1 Dec 1709 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He being summoned as an evidence to prove the last will and testament of HENRY DUNKAN, made oath that he saw HENRY DUNKAN sign and seale and declare his last will and testament on 27 Jun 1711 at Westmoreland Co., VA. The Honorable Robert Carter, Esqr., brought his suite agt. JNO: DUNKAN for 60 pounds sterling current money and the Sheriff returned cepi corpus, DOROTHY DUNKAN security. For that the defendant failed to appeare, conditional order passed against security on 28 Mar 1712 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He served on a jury on 28 Aug 1712 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He Thomas Clay (agt.) John Day. In ejectione firme of two dwelling houses, two tobacco houses, 200 acres of land, 100 acres of woodland, 50 acres of arrable land and 50 acres of pasture in the Parish of Cople of the demise of JOHN DUNKAN. It is ordered that unless William Nash the tennant in possession or those under whom he claimes doe confess lease, entry and ouster and insist only on the mere mise of the premises, then judgment to pass for the plaintiff and her Majestie's writt of [here?] facias possessionem to be awarded on 28 Aug 1712 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He and Samuel Damouvel were appointed Grand Jurors for Nov Court 1712 on 27 Nov 1712 at Westmoreland Co., VA. The ejectione firme brought by Thomas Clay against John Day for lands in Cople Parish of the demise of JOHN DUNKAN being now called, William Remy appeared and confessed lease, entry and ouster and prayed to be admitted defendant in the stead of John Day, which is granted. He pleaded not guilty and the suite continued till next Court for tryall on 26 Mar 1713 at Westmoreland Co., VA. The Honorable Robert Carter, Esqr., brought suite against JNO: DUNKAN at March Court 1712 for stealeing, takeing away and to his own use converting one sow and five shoats of Robert contrary to Act of Assembly, to which JOHN DUNKAN at June Court said he was not guilty. At this Court both plaintiff and defendant by their attorneys being present, it was commanded the Sheriff to summon twelve . . . [who] doe say Wee doe find the defendant guilty of stealing the sow. The Court doe order that the plaintiff, being both owner of the hogg and prosecutor, have judgment for 10 pounds current money of Virginia, one of the penaltys assest for the first offence of hog stealeing (JNO: DUNKAN haveing refused to answer and undergoe the other), with costs on 26 Mar 1713 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He and Samuel Damouvel were jurors: Augustine Higgins brought suite at August Court last against John Veale for shooting and killing with a gun loaded with powder and lead a bald faced mare of the value of 1000 lbs. of tobacco to the damages of the plaintiff 2000 lbs. of tobacco. The defendant appeared and for plea ? said nothing. At this Court it was commanded the Sheriff that he should summon twelve. The Sheriff returned Samuel DAMOUVEL, Roger Wigginton, Samll: Earle, John Hobson, John DUNKAN . . . [who] say Wee find for the plaintiff and damage 1100 lbs. of tobacco . . . John Veale prayed an appeal to the 9th day of next General Court which is granted, he entering into bond . . on 1 Oct 1713 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

Duncan Whipt and Bound to his Behaviour, Whereas John DUNCAN was by vertue of a Mitimus from Samuell Peachey, Gentleman one of the Magistrates of this County Committed to the County Goale for feloniously takeing Ten p;ounds of Wool and Ten pounds of Sheet Lead from Mr. John Tarpley Jr. and being now brought before this Court, and on Examination of Several Evidences touching the same, It is the Opinion of this Court that the said John DUNCAN is Guilty of what is laid to his Charge. It is therefore Ordered that the Sherif take him and Carry him to the Common Whipping post and Give him Thirty nine lashes on his bare back well laid on, and then to give Security for his good Behaviour During the Term of one Year. Whereupon the said John DUNCAN Together with John Tarpley Jr. Gentleman his Security in Open Court Acknowledged themselves Indebted unto our Sovereign Lord the King his heirs and Successors, The said John DUNCAN in the Sum of Twenty pounds Sterling and the said John Tarpley in the Sum of Ten pounds Sterling to be Levyed on their Lands and Tenements goods and Chattles, With Condition that if the said John DUNCAN shall be of good Behaviour as Well Towards his Said Majestie as all his Leige people, That then this recognizance to be Void and of None Effect, or Else to remain in Full force on 6 Oct 1731 at Richmond Co., VA (William B. "It appearing to this Court that three Servant men Named John DUNKAN, Bryan Kelly and _____ [name erased in original] did divers times unlawfully Confederate together, with an Intention to Abscond From their Master's Service. It is therefore Ordered that For the said Offence, the Sherrif take them and Carry them to the Common Whiping Post, and give each of them twenty Lashes on their bare ba'x well laid on."

"It is ordered that Henry Kirk be sworne constable in the place of PEETER DUNCAN on 26 Mar 1684 at Westmoreland Co., VA. He vs. Francis Morrice. The Sheriff haveing returned a cepi corpus and the defendant faileing to appeare and no bail being returned, order is granted the plaintiff against the Sheriff on 24 Feb 1698/99 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He was named trustee in Will of William Clarke . . . loving wife Mary, James Clarke & William Clarke, Executors. Peter Smith and PETER DUNKAN trustees in 1696 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He filed a lawsuit vs. Francis Morrice. The Sheriff haveing returned a cepi corpus and the defendant faileing to appeare and no bail being returned, order is granted the plaintiff against the Sheriff on 1 Jun 1699 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

Judgment is granted PETER DUNKAN against Francis Morris for 400 lbs. of tobacco due for rent of the plantation Morris now lives on for the year ended 5 Nov last year on 29 Jun 1699 at Westmoreland Co., VA. Peter Ouchterlony was attached to answer James Orchard of a plea of trespass on the case wherefore hee by force and armes into and upon the plantation of James did enter and two boys, servants to James, the one named Wm. Rosse and the other William Crookshanks, unlawfully did seize and carry away, to his damage 5000 lbs. of tobacco. Outhterlony by GEO. ESKRIDGE his attorney said that hee was not guilty. The Sheriff returned twelve: . . . and PETER DUNKAN doe find the two servants doe belong to Mr. James Orchard . . . damaged 500 lbs. of tobacco . . . return the two servant boys and pay him 500 lbs. of tobacco on 31 Aug 1699 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

He left a will before 30 Oct 1700 at Westmoreland Co., VA: The last will and testament of PETER DUNKAN was proved by the oaths of HENRY DUNKAN and CHARLES DUNKAN. A probat granted ELIZA: his relict and executrix therein named. He Stephen Bayley by his petition setting forth that he had two of the orphants of PETER DUNKAN bound apprentices to him and that they had some estate in the hands of RICHD. HAMMOCK who intermarryed the relict of PETER DUNKAN and praying RICHARD HAMMOCK might be ordered to deliver the same to him in right of the orphants. Upon consideration thereof and reasons shown by RICHARD against the same, the Court are of the opinion that they may not remove the estate detained by RICHARD HAMMOCK in right of his wife who was executrix of PETER DUNKAN and dismiss the petition on 26 Oct 1709 at Westmoreland Co., VA.

When she was young, there were designs for marrying her off to a wealthy, old man. One time he pressed his attention on Frances by kissing her hand as she played the piano. To his surprise, she picked up a flute and delivered a hard blow on his head that brought blood. Soon after this incident, Frances eloped with William R. Meyer.

To this marriage were born three children:
Elizabeth Rebecca, called "Betty" Harrison, called "Tobe", died at age 27; Mary, died at age 3 or 4."

There is also a list of children born to Frances and her second husband, James Calvin Harrell (1818-1876): Parthenia Ophelia, Robert Hiram, Joseph Bird, Lucy Alice, Lillie Dale, and Sterling Price. She immigrated in 1846 to Caddo Par., LA; with her husband James Harrell and her brothers Dr. John Harrison and Richard Kirkland "Dick" Harrison. James Harrell moved his family and many slaves to Caddo Parish where his slaves cleared land for farming. Frances's children Elizabeth Rebecca and Harrison Meyer were left in AL with their grandmother, Elizabeth Rives Adams, Willoughby's widow. Elizabeth Rebecca was only 8 years old. Her sickly little sister Mary was the only child taken along.

249 iv. Reuben Henry Harrison; m. Mary Ann Spratt at AL; 1st husb; b. 23 Sep 1821 (unknown author, Family Bible of Willoughby.); d. before 1864 at Monterey, TX; Reuben Harrison II was killed in Monterey TX by a blacksmith named Lester. Alice Harrell's version of the triple murder was that Reuben and his overseer named Collins went to Monterey. There they got in an argument with the blacksmith over a rooster fight. Either Reuben or Collins shot and fatally wounded Lester. Before he died, he killed both men. He threw his tongs hitting Reuben in the head and killed Collins with his sledge hammer. Before the blacksmith died, he asked if the other two were dead. As they were, he said he was willing to go also. Other versions of this story were told. Reuben was buried near his home with his overseer beside him. This started the Harrison/Harrell cemetery. Reuben's mother was buried beside him, at her request. Reuben II and Mary Ann Sprat had two children:
Reuben III killed in Mexia, TX; and Betty, married Bill May; some of the Mays live near Benton, AL.
Reuben's widow, Mary Ann married Andrew J. Hitchcock."
