How I wish that I could tell you that my ancestor, SAMUEL PATTERSON who was in Sevier Co., TN, by 1810 was part of this Patterson family that moved from Ireland to Delaware to Orange/Augusta Co., VA, and spread to Tryon and other Counties in North and South Carolina! Many descendants migrated in time to McMinn Co., TN, where Samuel Patterson's children moved.

But alas! We know of no male Patterson cousin patrilineal descendant of Samuel Patterson whose DNA could be tested and compared to a descendant of ROBERT "R" PATTERSON, the son of Margaret Donnell and William Patterson, such as Wes Patterson. Samuel's daughter Priscilla Patterson married Joseph Longley and moved to Texas (where she died in 1852); her brother WILLIAM TRYON PATTERSON moved to Catoosa Co., GA, and died there or in neighboring Hamilton Co., TN, after 23 May 1854, when he and his wife Abigail Longley signed an affidavit in Abigail and Joseph's mother Mary Ann Longley's Revolutionary Widow's Pension file.

Several descendants of Robert "R" Patterson have been tested and shown to match descendants of JAMES PATTERSON born ca 1745-50 and died 1800-1810 in Buncumbe Co., NC, probably the same James who lived near Robert and probably was a cousin, and probably the James who was deeded land in Augusta Co., VA, by his parents Samuel and Martha Patterson.
